Warner Bros. Discovery and Room to Read have partnered to produce ‘She Creates Change’, an ambitious project aimed at reaching all 432 million adolescent girls worldwide with inspiring and informative content. This collaboration will deliver a series of six animated shorts accompanied by live-action mini-documentaries, shedding light on the challenges faced by young women in male-dominated societies within low-income communities across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Tanzania.
Room to Read, a global education nonprofit organization committed to combating illiteracy and gender inequality, spearheads the initiative. Each episode of ‘She Creates Change’ delves into the struggles of a girl navigating her unique circumstances, whether it’s harassment, food scarcity, or early marriage. Through advocacy and resilience, these girls challenge societal norms and pave the way for change.
The premiere of ‘She Creates Change’ is scheduled to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8, 15, and 22, with broadcasts across Asia. Viewers in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam can catch the series on the Discovery ASIA channel. Additionally, audiences in Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka can tune in via TLC and Discovery+ India channels.
Behind the scenes, a women-led creative team drives the production of the animation film. Dr. Geetha Murali, Brenda Chapman, Jill Culton, Freida Pinto, and Nexus Studios serve as executive producers, with Martha Adams directing the series and Ian Blei producing. Notable voices lending their talents to the project include Freida Pinto, Charithra Chandran, Prajakta Koli, Dilshad Vadsaria, Adhir Kalyan, Amita Suman, Amrita Acharia, and Quyen Ngo.
The animation is directed by a group of women directors curated by Nexus Studios, including Bonnie Taylor Forsyth, Claudia Chinyere Akole, Hannah Lau-Walker, Neeraja Raj, Prashanti Aswani, and Siqi Song. ‘She Creates Change’ promises to be a powerful narrative highlighting the resilience and determination of young women confronting adversity in pursuit of a better future
