Red Chillies VFX, renowned for its mastery in visual effects, has unveiled the intricate work behind the cinematic spectacle of “Dunki,” starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The VFX breakdown showcases the meticulous attention to detail, from expansive desert vistas to the subtlest wrinkles on characters’ feet.
The comprehensive breakdown video offers insight into the standout scenes of “Dunki,” revealing the extensive use of visual effects throughout the film. Particularly noteworthy is the closing sequence, where Taapsee Pannu’s character reminisces about her youth in her old village, which demanded seamless camera movements achieved through intricate VFX.
One striking moment enhanced by computer-generated effects is when Vicky Kaushal’s character immolates himself following a failed visa interview, with CGI fire intensifying the emotional impact of the scene.
As the central characters journey towards London, various digitally rendered environments come to life. While physical vehicles were crafted, scenes involving them were shot against blue screen backdrops, with Red Chillies VFX seamlessly integrating background elements.
Surprisingly, pivotal scenes such as the characters escaping gunfire or featuring wrinkled feet were not captured as initially perceived. Instead, VFX were employed to achieve the desired effects, including CGI replacing dry hair with a wet appearance and adding wrinkles to feet without submerging them in water.
Fans have applauded the remarkable VFX work in “Dunki,” with one YouTube commenter praising the water scene’s perfection and another commending the realism of the CG fire.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, “Dunki” has emerged as Shah Rukh Khan’s third-highest-grossing film, earning over Rs 470 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 120 crore. The success of “Dunki” adds to Shah Rukh Khan’s illustrious career, with his subsequent films “Pathaan” and “Jawan” each grossing over Rs 1000 crore globally in 2023, marking the pinnacle of his cinematic journey.
