The official website for the Chinese-animated series adaptation of Kaisei Enomoto’s novel A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized (Yowai 5000-nen no Sōshoku Dragon, Iware Naki Jaryū Nintei) has announced exciting updates for the show’s second season. On Saturday, the series revealed additional cast members, a new teaser, and the opening theme for the upcoming season.
The opening theme, titled “Brave One,” is performed by Fukurow note. Among the newly announced cast members are Takuma Nagatsuka, who will voice the leader of the shadowy organization “Shikoku no Chi” (Jet Black Blood), and Momo Sakurai, who will portray a woman involved in the organization.
The Japanese-dubbed version of the second season is scheduled to debut in Japan this October. Yui Ishikawa has been cast as Vanessa, the queen of Asga, with Iori Noguchi voicing Vanessa’s younger sister, Rosetta.
The first season, produced by LAN Studio, premiered on bilibili in July 2022, and the series was made available with English subtitles in August 2022. The Japanese-dubbed version later premiered in January 2023. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the series, which follows the story of Reiko, a young girl who seeks the help of a 5,000-year-old dragon to protect her village from a demon king. Despite the dragon being a vegetarian and relatively weak, the two embark on a journey to defeat the demon king, with Reiko claiming to draw power from the dragon’s supposed infinite abilities.
Kaisei Enomoto began publishing the novel series on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website in June 2017, with the latest chapter released in June 2020. The novels were later published by Kadokawa with illustrations by Shugao starting in February 2018. Murokouichi adapted the story into a manga, which was serialized in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine from 2018 to 2019, and the English version of the manga is available digitally through Manga UP!.
